Prophet Hananiah reminds me of those times when many of us fall into the tendency of wanting to hear and give what we want to hear or see. Never mind if it may be grossly inaccurate. As long as it gives an impression that all is well (even if it is not) and that there is really no need to change anything.
'Something Wicked This Way Comes', a Ray Bradbury sci-fi/horror novel skillfully addresses this issue also as the whole townsfolk slowly fall under the insidious spell of the evil circus ringmaster. If not for the hero of a young boy and his friend who saw through the guises and wiles of the evil circus, the town would have been totally corrupted and damned forever.
Prophet Jeremiah stands for all of us on the side that sees what it really is and says it as it is. Black is black and white is white. Two wrongs don't make a right. Don't hide behind semantics and false premises. For all of these, Jeremiah suffered persecution and ridicule. He became what many bible scholars would call the symbol of 'Jesus' during the Old Testament time.
On whose side do we stand today?...
