Da Vinci? pfaaggh!...

I received an email asking me to do a poll on the question as to whether I would watch the movie The Da Vinci Code and to give reasons why or why not I go.

Now that the movie is making its circuit around the world, it's influence and hype seems to be gripping the attention of Christians and non-Christians alike. A taste of it from the reviews at MSN movies:

Hey guys and gals.. RELAAAAAAXXXXX, dot get to exited or too anoyed. It just a MOVIE. Take it in this way, this is an intilligent movie that challenge the believers faiths by throwing out fictional questions and some was proven wrong and some has facts. I say this movie has all the ingredients , suspense, thrill, adventure etc. Tom Hanks was great. My advise for believers who wish to see the movie go ahead and after you seen it and were shaken or raise doubts on what you believed, relax.. go find the truth out there by doing your own research or get the facts from intilligent peoples comprises of historican, scientists, researces, priests, religious people and so on. Dont just read and interpret the bible, read and interpret other religion books too, Im sure it will help and you see the lights. At the end believe in what you believed. Have a nice day and good fortune.

Greetings! in the name of the Lord Jesus who is God Almighty. This movie is an abomination before the Almighty God and Saviour Jesus Christ. All that say that this movie is true, has the same spirit as this author Dan Brown. And they deserve everlasting hell for eternity, for saying such blapshemouse things against the Lord God of all creation who is Jesus Christ.

It was a good movie, very interesting and kept me at the edge of my seat. Personally I think everyone just needs to chill. See the movie or dont, your choice but dont insult people who do otherwise. Its a free country, freedom of speech, so please stop with the arguing! This site is for feedback so please leave feedback then stop there. You dont like the idea, your opinion. You dont think its real, your opinion and I agree. But I think this movie is like Harry Potter, it contradicts peoples beliefs so it makes them mad. Whatever, try to keep it PG, kay? Im a Christian just like half the people here, I know its fiction just like half the people here. You dont want to see the movie, than dont. But dont critize the people that do. And everyone else just lay off, why do peoples religous beliefs bother you so? Enjoy the movie or dont, your choice but dont bother the rest of the world!

With reviewers such as the above, you know you are getting a movie that opens up reactions that can make people go to the extreme. Dan Brown a god?! god of the stupid things, more likely (no slur intended to Arundhati Roy)!

Anyway, would I see the movie? The reviews from its opening was rather lukewarm as can be seen here. So, I am not rushing to get any tix to watch it any time soon. Instead I'd rather spend in on movies which have better sense of storytelling and more exciting in dealing with the what-if? type of scenarios than the old and dead horse of a subject on the Holy Grail and whether Jesus was celibate or not. So here are my own take on my favourites:

Mission Impossible 3
Truly a popcorn movie! Big thrills, action, spies, gadgets and explosions galore! No need to know whether fact or fiction. We just know that we can enjoy the story and be taken in by the stunts and special effects that only MI can deliver. It was a real laugh to see Mr Tom Cruise disguised in/wearing a cassock in one scene at the 'Vatican'! A fan gives his take to this here! :-)

Over The Hedge
A funtastic and good what-if? scenario on animals of the wild when their wildlife boundary was confronted with a housing estate. The anthropomorphising of animals to give them human feelings and how they cope with the 'life-threatening' situation is simply hilarious. Even the day-to-day things we humans always take for granted has been caricatured wickedly to a T (check out the THX speakers scene with the porcupine) that you may not look at them in the same manner after this!

X Men III
What can I say? Only comicbook fans and those who were brought up in the Marvel Universe since the early days of these mutant superheroes/stars would take all this without any question. :-) It's the ultimate what-if? situation where humans take on superhuman traits that made them outcasts of society. Mutants that are hated and hunted until they hit back. Ian McKellen is better here with his Magneto character! Go, mutants!

Meanwhile, I am still on eyedrops to stabilise my right eye after its operation. I wonder.... what if it suddenly gave me powers like Cyclops? ;-)

Hello Aloysius and all,

There is a way to verify the truth...

You may not like my message at first. Truth is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow. Resist the urge to scoff at what I say or you'll miss the chance to learn from past mistakes. As I have long said, works are far more important than faith and now I am proving it to the world in dramatic fashion.

Yes, the DaVinci Code is a novel. It is no more accurate as a literal version of history than is the New Testament. In other words, neither is the literal truth, which is a key fact of the story and ancient history. The primary sub-plot is about purposeful symbology being used to encode hidden meanings, exactly like the Bible and related texts. Arguing about whether the DaVinci Code, Gospel of Judas, or the Bible are accurate history is a Machiavellian red herring designed to hide the truth by misdirecting your inquiry away from the heart of the matter.

Want to truly understand why we can't let the Vatican succeed at telling us what to think about ancient history? There is a foolproof way to verify the truth and expose centuries-old religious deceptions. It is also the common thread connecting why the ancient Hebrews, Yahad/Essene, Jews, Gnostics, Cathars, Templars, Dead Sea Scrolls, DaVinci Code, and others have all been targets of Rome’s ire and evil machinations. What the Vatican and its secret society cohorts don’t want you to understand is that the ancient Hebrew symbology in all of these texts purposely encodes and exposes the truth about them. Furthermore, the structure of ancient symbology verifiably encodes the rules to decode messages built with it. This is what they most fear you will discover.

If the Bible represented the literal truth or even accurate history, there would be no need for faith in the assertions of deceptive and duplicitous clergy and their ilk. Wisdom and faith are opposing concepts, because wisdom requires the unequivocal truth where faith obfuscates and opposes it. Religion is therefore the enemy of truth and wisdom.

It is undeniable the New Testament is framed by ancient Hebrew symbolism and allegory. The same is evidenced in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Gnostic texts, biblical apocrypha, DaVinci Code, and other related texts. All ancient religious, mystical, and wisdom texts have been shrouded in mystery for millennia for one primary reason: The ability to understand their widely evidenced symbology was lost in antiquity. How do we finally solve these ages-old mysteries? To recast an often-used political adage: It’s [the] symbology, stupid!

It is amazing the Vatican still tries to insist the Gospels are literal truth. It is beyond obvious they are replete with ancient Hebrew symbology. Every miracle purported for Jesus has multiple direct symbolic parallels in the Old Testament, Apocalypse, Dead Sea Scrolls, and other symbolic narratives and traditions. This is the secret held by the ancient Gnostics, Templars, and Cathars, which is presented with dramatic effect in the DaVinci Code. None of these narratives or stories were ever intended as the literal truth. That is a key fact to unraveling ages-old mysteries.

Likewise, the following Washington Post article ( The Book of Bart) describes how many changes and embellishments were made to New Testament texts over the centuries, unequivocally demonstrating they are not original, infallible, or truthful.

It's no wonder the Vatican fears the truth more than anything else. Seek to understand the symbolic significance of my name (Seven Star Hand) and you will have proof beyond disproof that Jews, Christians, and Muslims have long been duped by the great deceivers I warned humanity about over the millennia. What then is the purpose of "faith" but to keep good people from seeking to understand truth and wisdom?

Now comes justice, hot on its heels... (symbolism...)

Not only do I talk the talk, I walk the walk...

Since when did the Vatican assert that the bible is "accurate history"?

It helps if the ill-informed check out what the Vatican is really asserting here

Excerpts:

"Holy Mother Church has firmly and with absolute constancy held, and continues to hold, that the four Gospels just named, whose historical character the Church unhesitatingly asserts, faithfully hand on what Jesus Christ, while living among men, really did and taught for their eternal salvation until the day He was taken up into heaven (see Acts 1:1)."

"To search out the intention of the sacred writers, attention should be given, among other things, to "literary forms." For truth is set forth and expressed differently in texts which are variously historical, prophetic, poetic, or of other forms of discourse. The interpreter must investigate what meaning the sacred writer intended to express and actually expressed in particular circumstances by using contemporary literary forms in accordance with the situation of his own time and culture. (7) For the correct understanding of what the sacred author wanted to assert, due attention must be paid to the customary and characteristic styles of feeling, speaking and narrating which prevailed at the time of the sacred writer, and to the patterns men normally employed at that period in their everyday dealings with one another. (8)"

Thks *s*haron ..

Also, in the reading of the Gospels, we always need the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit to enlighten our minds and hearts; precisely to prevent us from 'intellectualising' what cannot be 'intellectualised'.

Wisdom and Faith are not opposing forces seeking to cancel each other out. They are virtues and gifts given by the Holy Spirit to the Faithful for the building up of the Kingdom of God with-in and with-out. Remember Pope John Paul the second (John Paul the Great) who applauded humanity's advances in Science and Medicine and exhorted us to apply our intelligence to the service of God and neighbour?

To me, the Vatican is like the administrative centre and reference point for all the Catholic and Christian churches all over the world. We look to it for guidance and counsel just like we look to the Holy Father because he is tasked by God to carry on the duties of the first apostle, Peter.

"Want to truly understand why we can't let the Vatican succeed at telling us what to think about ancient history?"

I don't think the Vatican can ever succeed in telling us anything if we don't want to listen. Some of us don't even listen to our parents. We are intelligent creatures (really, God did not short-change us of anything when He created us). We can CHOOSE to believe or not.

I mean come on, God even allowed Lucifer (that super-intelligent angel) to take one third of heaven with him. And see the choice he made as intelligent as he (was). Even the angels have CHOICES.

Lastly, there is no such thing as a good person. Every rational human being will know that he has strengths and weaknesses inherent in him that he must struggle with everyday. Who's infallible, really? But the Pope is really God's representative on earth, isn't he. He represents God's authority on earth and that authority my friend IS infallible.

Now I know why little children are such easy victims of abuse. Fallible us find it so easy to attack harmless and innocent things. The Word of God is so simple isn’t it, it’s so easy (too easy in fact) to want to find conspiracies theories behind it. Your search for the truth is truly moving and your sophisticated arguments were really an attempt to appeal to our intelligence wasn’t it? Well, all your futile words did was to give me a headache (as if we don’t have enough problems in the world like poverty, racism and depression). Or maybe conspiracy-type arguments like these are meant to deflect us from paying attention to the REAL problems in our society?

PS: Whenever you present this type of an argument to a Catholic priest from now on, you will address him as Father. It’s Father Aloysius to you.

PPS: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, in case any of you are afraid to speak up cus of some misguided fear, know that it is precisely in situations like these that God entrusted to you the Faith. Maranatha! And Ave Maria!! :)
