What's with people fascination with the end times and any other nonsense related to that?...
Day 666 has come and gone and there isn't anything to signal a catastrophe pointing to the total annihilation of the entire world the day before. As far the day went by the day before, it was business as usual: Mt Merapi is still spewing and smouldering, Iraq is still in its throes of senseless killings and bombings, another scandal high up in the some government somewhere is taking place, Bush is still president and the IR project in Singapore is gathering pace like there is no tomorrow. On that account, I think we are doing fine!
Did the devil incarnate born again in some obscure corner of the world ready to spring its evil and apocalyptic plan upon us unsuspecting mortals in time to come? At the rate we ourselves are handling the world today, the devil needn't bother to do anything in that area. We are doing it very well for him!
Meanwhile I (and the rest of the universal Church) just celebrated Pentecost with the parish embracing the Spirit of knowledge, understanding, wisdom, counsel, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord in our daily lives. This coming weekend we encounter the true God of our lives in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I say we already have more than enough ammunition as people of God to lead in a manner that is life-giving and in truth without needing to run a round like a crazed lunatic everytime someone or something goes off their rocker about the end times - 666 or some other stupid bugaboo.
Anyway, 6 June was the national holiday of Sweden, Queensland Day, South Korea Memorial Day, National Yo-yo Day (USA!) and the 62th anniversary of the Allied troops' landing on the beaches of Normandy that began the end for the Nazis and World War II.
It’s rainy and wet day we have today…
