What Is Good About This Friday?
A slow motion number of days that unfolds itself over the Triduum of Thursday, Friday and picks up by Saturday evening. It's the long and tiring journey of the people in preparing themselves for the joys of Easter but needing to face the horror and brutality of the cross. But for believers, the cross is also the sign of Christ's victory over sin and death, and therefore of our liberation.
I have some time to recollect on all this as I prepare for the Good Friday service which I am conducting at 3.00 p.m. later. There are the various responses and prayers to be made where there are some amount of singing to be done. This year's triduum I shall be behind the altar as the celebant - a great change from my previous role as deacon last year.
It is said that usually on this day at the 3.00 hour, our skies get dark and a downpour usually occur. It remains to be seen if it happens again this year...
It is also a hoiday here in Singapore on Good Friday. Make it a fruitful and meaningful one!
Confessions of a Catholic Fundamentalist
-
A recent book called me a “Catholic fundamentalist.” Considering the
source, I take that as a compliment.
