Citrus Thots
Oranges.
To the Chinese they siginfy all that is related to the New Year, blessedness and prosperity. So it is no wonder, during this time of the year when our local churches celebrate the Chinese New Year Masses, these fruits are always given out in pairs to the congregation at the end of the Mass celebration. The meanig now takes on a new Christianized dimension of receiving the blessings of God and the dispelling of all fears as we embrace the new life in Christ, facing the future ahead, God and his people, together.
It is my hope that this year will see more and more of us who profess to follow Christ can be more discerning and begin to put more trust and faith in God, who continually wants to be with us, to guide us in our daily lives. There are times when we need to take a step back to see where we are going on with our state of life. Have we gone astray? Have we neglected our loved ones? Have we gotten money-crazy and crowd out the one thing that really matters in life, i.e. God?
Perhaps for some of us, the time is now. Let us hope it is not too late...
