Dawn of the King!

If you are reading this, then you would have realised the world didn't end yesterday and life still carries on as we know it. So much for all those nonsensical prophecies of the end and doom. People just never learn but somehow always want to be caught up with the fascination of the end of the world, which no one really knows how it will really entail.

The Antiphons for yesterday was rather telling as it is on Christ as the Radiant Dawn (Oriens) who is to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death. Indeed it was the radiant dawn that greeted us at the break of yesterday promising a new day and the continued gift of life. It wasn't the darkness of death and total destruction which some unenlightened people were braying about.

This radiant dawn that came upon us yesterday and every day, for that matter, is the King which we must acknowledge as the center of our lives. Speaking of king, Tolkien in his unique and literary manner showed what this true king is about. Both in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and, currently, in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, we have a kingly figure that directs the group onto their quest which is fraught with dangers and turmoils at every turn. Both Aragorn and Thorin stood up to the challenges in overcoming evil in all forms and manner.

They both exhibit, in literary style, the kingly Christ figure which gathers people around them, where their presence and voice capture the hearts and minds of their followers, leading them out from darkness and into light.

O dawn of the east, brightness of light eternal, and sun of justice: come, and enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.

O King of the Gentiles and their desired One, the Cornerstone that makes both one; Come, and deliver man, whom You formed out of the dust of the earth.
