On the Eve of the Pig

The weather outside is currently a little wet with some afternoon showers. It is also incredibly quiet around the church as the movement and traffic of people and cars within the vicinity are very much muted. I suspect it may be the same all over the island.

It's the eve of the Chinese New Year and Chinese families are 'hunkering down' for their reunion dinners and get-togethers. It is also the beginning of a long holiday that will stretch all the way to Tuesday of next week. In a short while, we priests here will be having our 'reunion lunch'. I can already get a whiff of the spread that will be our meal, as it emanates from the kitchen. Mary, our cook, is putting her finishing touches to the masterpieces that she is cooking up. Audrey, our secretary, is going back for her own lunch spread there and she will come back again later to resume her work till the evening :-)

According to Chinese culture, those who are born under the sign of the Pig would exhibit their main goal in life in serving others, and no matter how difficult circumstances become the Pig will never waiver or retreat, forging ahead in the sure knowledge that all will be well. They also make good neighbours. So, if that is the case, we Catholic Christians can be the best Pigs around to have - maybe? ;-)
