Walk of Life
He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.
-- Nietzsche
Took a walk of life down Orchard and City Hall that began at Kinokuniya.
The crowd, sight and smells of the people, building, cars, smoke and concrete show me how long I've been away from them all. No regrets for that. What was distressing was that the walk was indicating to me that the world is continuing its spiralling towards excess and consumerism that distorts the real meaning of life. It's buy this, buy that, if-you-do-this-you-will-succeed creeds of materialism abounds and oozes through the very pores of the surrounding. Totally suffocating!
Came back feeling exhausted and saddened by the whole trip. Have we come so far to be enslaved by these excesses that only promised temporary satisfaction?...It was certainly a walk down the wild side!
Maybe another walk, but this time to discover myself. I believe there is an old American Indian saying that if you walk long and far and wide enough you may come to encounter your other self waking up to you.....any ideas?
